Nancy O'Dell's career in broadcasting began as an anchor and journalist for WPDE-TV Myrtle Beach in South Carolina. O'Dell later became an anchor for morning news for WCBD TV and acted as the crime reporter. While in Charleston O'Dell's reports about the relaxed approach police take to DUI cases led to the launch of a State Law Enforcement Division investigation that led to state authorities re-issuing a more stringent directive regarding the instances.
